• bioinformatics

It is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data.

  • Computational Biology

It involves the development and application of data-analytical and theoretical methods, mathematical modeling and computational simulation techniques to the study of biological, ecological, behavioral, and social systems.

  • Doctoral degree program

Bionformatics and Computational Biology is an interdisciplinary study program in three fields, namely informatics, biology and general medicine and dentistry. The aim of the program is to educate experts with interdisciplinary domain knowledge with an emphasis on practical experience and skills.

  • Two Universities, Two Faculties

Doctoral degree program is supported by two universities, namely VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, and Palacky University Olomouc. More precisely, experts from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry are involved in teaching and leading PhD students.

The aim of the doctoral degree program Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is to educate experts with interdisciplinary domain knowledge of natural and medical sciences and informatics with an emphasis on practical experience and skills necessary for bioinformatics analysis of different types of large and complex datasets, extraction of knowledge from data and database systems.

The graduates will be theoretically and experimentally prepared to carry out independent research work, starting from the acquisition of large and small data sets (laboratory, clinical) up to their expert bioinformatic and statistical analysis and interpretation. The study of this program allows for straightforward practical outputs.

The graduates will find their place in the field of basic research and industrial research and experimental development and thus will find employment not only in biochemically-focused research institutions and universities, but also in private pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies.
